A BIMit project is the memory of your work for the AI: diary, notes, to-dos, archived emails and documents. The AI uses it with the Project, Diary and Archive packages (Project panel), even with Revit closed. If a message starts with the name or code of a project («Santo Stefano, 25001: …»), the AI activates it for that conversation.
One folder per project#
Everything about a project is in one folder:
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| The project's folder | The project's working folder, if you gave one; otherwise Documents\BIMit\Commesse\<name> (<name> (<code>) if that folder already belongs to another project). Archived emails, documents and notes go here, in the Email, Documents and Notes subfolders. |
| BIMit's memory | The project's record, the diary, the notes, the archive's search index and the code run, in the hidden .bimit subfolder inside the project's folder. |
| Arrivi | Documents\BIMit\Arrivi: drag emails out of Outlook and documents here; the AI files them into the projects. |
If you give a working folder to a project that had none, or take it away, BIMit copies the
project's memory (.bimit) into the new folder; the previous one stays as a backup. Files already
archived stay where they are; the next ones go into the new folder.
The BIMit folder#
Commesse and Arrivi are in the BIMit folder, usually Documents\BIMit. If your PC's Documents
folder is on the network or synced with OneDrive (for example by OneDrive's PC folder backup), BIMit
keeps no project there and uses %USERPROFILE%\Documents\BIMit if that is a local folder, otherwise
%USERPROFILE%\BIMit. You can choose another one with Change…
(Changing the projects folder).
Network folders and folders synced with OneDrive are not accepted, neither as the BIMit folder nor as a project's working folder: the projects' files stay on your PC. A working folder also cannot be another project's folder, the BIMit folder, Commesse or Arrivi (or a folder inside Arrivi), nor be inside a backup BIMit left behind.
BIMit keeps the list of where each project is to itself, in %LOCALAPPDATA%\BIMit\IndiceCommesse.
If you copy a project's folder with its .bimit into Commesse (from another PC, from a
colleague), BIMit finds it by itself.
The Projects page of Settings#
In Settings → Projects:
| Item | What it does |
|---|---|
| Project of the active document · Open folder | The project the active model in Revit is linked to; Open folder opens its folder. If the model is not linked, Open the projects opens the Commesse folder. |
| Where they are | How many projects and areas there are, and how many have a working folder of their own. |
| The projects folder · Open · Change… | The Commesse folder (Documents\BIMit\Commesse, unless you changed it). Change… picks another BIMit folder and copies the projects there (below). If a folder chosen before can no longer be used (on the network, synced with OneDrive), the page says so and BIMit uses the default one. |
| Arrivals · Open | The Arrivi folder (Documents\BIMit\Arrivi, unless you changed it). |
| Diary of reads too | On: the project's diary also records the tools that only read. Off (default): the writes, the code and the jobs. |
While BIMit is copying the projects (the first copy from BIMit 2.0, or a Change… in another Revit session), the page says so and Change… is available again when it ends.
Changing the projects folder#
Change… picks the folder where BIMit keeps Commesse and Arrivi. It must be a local folder (not on the network nor synced with OneDrive), not inside the current Commesse and Arrivi folders nor around them, and not overlapping BIMit 2.0's folders or BIMit's internal ones: otherwise BIMit says why and changes nothing.
After you confirm, BIMit copies (does not move), in the background, everything in the current Commesse folder, also the working folders chosen inside it, and the Arrivi into the new Commesse and Arrivi folders. Projects with a working folder of their own elsewhere stay where they are. Revit stays free; until the copy ends BIMit does not write into the projects.
- The folder changes only after a complete copy. If something does not copy (usually a file open in another program), the projects folder stays the previous one and nothing is deleted; the projects copied whole are already in the new folder. Close the open files and choose Change… again: BIMit copies only what is missing.
- Your files are never overwritten. If the new folder already has a different file with the same name, the copied one gets another name («name (2).pdf») and both stay. A newer file of BIMit's memory is never replaced; the diaries are merged.
- The previous folders stay as a backup, with a
LEGGIMI - BIMit 2.1.txtnote that says where everything went. The note says you may delete them only when nothing BIMit uses is left in them; otherwise it says not to delete them and lists why.
From earlier versions#
The first time you use BIMit 2.1 (when Revit starts, or when the AI uses the projects with Revit
closed), BIMit copies (does not move), in the background, BIMit 2.0's projects from
%LOCALAPPDATA%\BIMit\Commesse into their folders (the working folder, if they had one, otherwise
Documents\BIMit\Commesse\<name>), with the archived files, and the files in
%USERPROFILE%\BIMit Arrivi, or in the Arrivi folder you had chosen in BIMit 2.0, into
Documents\BIMit\Arrivi.
- The rules of Change… apply: your files are never overwritten (a different file with the same name is copied under another name), a newer file of BIMit's memory is never replaced, and a project moves to its new folder only when all of it was copied.
- BIMit 2.0's folders stay as a backup, with the
LEGGIMI - BIMit 2.1.txtnote: it says where everything went and, only if everything was copied, that you may delete them once you have checked the copies. If something was not copied, the note says not to delete them and what is missing: BIMit tries again at the next start and copies only what is missing. - If the copy runs again, nothing is duplicated.
Good to know#
- A BIMit project does not change the model: the AI writes only in the project's folders on your PC.
