Model › Read

Your AI reads the model open in Revit (elements, parameters, views, tables and view images) without changing anything.

What it contains

The tools your AI uses to look at the model before doing anything else: the project information and the levels, the categories, the elements with their properties and parameters, the selection in Revit, the views and sheets, a compact map of the model, the elements near a point and the image of a view. It also reads an Excel or CSV file from disk and tells the AI the access level you gave it in Revit.

None of these tools changes the model. The only one that acts in Revit, Select elements, changes only the selection; Report a problem writes only its report in BIMit's queue on this PC.

The package is always on: it cannot be switched off, because the other packages need it to know what they are working on.

When to use it

  • To ask your AI what the model looks like: levels, rooms, systems, links, how many elements per category.
  • To find elements and read their parameters, for example to check what is missing before a submission.
  • To show the elements found in Revit, selecting them and zooming to them.
  • To let the AI see a view, with the elements you care about highlighted in red.
  • To give the AI a client's table (Excel or CSV) to start from, for example for a WBS configuration.

The tools

  • Model information: title, path, versions, project information, levels, active view, BIMit project.
  • Categories: the model categories that have elements, with the OST name and the element count.
  • Find elements: the elements of some categories, by id or selected, with family, type, level and the properties requested.
  • Element parameters: all the instance and type parameters of some elements.
  • Read the selection: the elements selected in Revit right now.
  • Select elements: selects the given elements in Revit and zooms to them.
  • List of views: the model's views and sheets, filtered by type or name.
  • Read a table: reads an .xlsx or .csv file from disk.
  • Current AI level: the access level you chose in Revit and what it allows.
  • Model map: levels, grids, rooms, spaces, systems, links, phases, worksets and extents at a glance.
  • Nearby elements: the elements within a radius of a point or an element, nearest first.
  • View image: the image of a view, with elements highlighted when needed.
  • Report a problem: when something in BIMit does not work, your AI reports it to the developer by itself, without the model's content.

Good to know

These tools do not change the model.

Where it is in Revit

BIMit tab › Model panel › Read. The package has no BIMit window of its own: you use it by talking to your AI.
