Find elements

Technical name: elementi

Model › Read

Reads

The elements of one or more categories, by id or selected in Revit, with family, type, level and the properties you need.

What it does

Returns elements of the active model chosen in one of three ways: by category (OST names such as OST_Walls), by id, or those selected in Revit right now. For each element it gives id, category, type id, family, type and level, plus the properties your AI asks for.

The available properties are: family, type, family_type, description, type_comments, type_mark, assembly_code, keynote, model, manufacturer, level, system_classification, system_abbreviation, system_name, system_type, comments, mark, workset, phase_created, category, the project information (project_name, project_number, client_name, building_name, organization_name, project_address, project_status, project_author), or param:Name for any parameter. Revit's own parameters are read independently of Revit's language.

With categories, the search can be limited to the elements visible in a view. Results are paged.

How it works

  1. Your AI gives the categories, the ids or the selection, and the properties to read.
  2. BIMit collects the elements in the model (with a view, only those visible in it) and reads the values. If a property does not exist, it answers with the list of valid ones.
  3. Your AI receives the total and one page of elements (200 at a time, at most 5000) and can ask for the next pages.

Example requests

  • "List the walls on the Ground Floor with their type and Mark."
  • "Which doors visible in the active view have an empty Comments parameter?"
  • "Give me family, type and workset of the elements I selected."

What changes and how to undo

Nothing: the tool only reads. The model and files do not change.

Limits

At most 5000 elements per call (200 when not specified); paging gives the rest.
