What it does
Reads an .xlsx (also .xlsm) or .csv (also .txt) file from a path on your PC and returns its sheets and rows to your AI. For example the client's WBS table, to turn into a BIMit WBS configuration, or a list of values to compare with the model.
In CSV files the separator (semicolon, comma or tab) is detected from the first line, and quotes are read the way Excel writes them. An old .xls file must first be saved as .xlsx.
How it works
- You tell it which file to read, with the full path.
- BIMit opens the file for reading and extracts the sheets (or only the one requested), up to 500 rows per sheet unless asked otherwise.
- Your AI receives, for each sheet, its name, the total number of rows and the rows read, and works on that data.
Example requests
- "Read C:\Projects\Client\WBS.xlsx and build a WBS configuration from that table."
- "Open the 'Rooms' sheet of this Excel file and compare the names with the rooms in the model."
- "Read the codes CSV and tell me how many rows it has."
What changes and how to undo
Nothing: the file is only read, never modified, and the model does not change. If the file is open in Excel and cannot be read, the tool says so: close it and try again.
