CAD → BIM › CAD → BIM

Coming soon

From a DWG, DXF or vector PDF plan to walls, columns, doors, windows and rooms in the model, with the room areas checked against the drawing.

Developer preview, coming soon. In BIMit 2.1.1 the CAD → BIM package is only in the developer's version: in the public beta it does not appear on the tab, in the pane or in "All tools", and your AI does not see it. With the developer's version, Paulo offers modelling and consulting.

What it contains

The tools your AI uses to turn the plan of an architectural drawing into Revit elements. The path is always the same:

  1. Read the drawing (DWG, DXF or vector PDF): layers, blocks, door and window tags, written room areas, scale or units.
  2. Analyze the drawing with fixed rules into a BIMit plan: walls with their thickness, columns, doors and windows with their tag code, partitions, rooms with name, written area and finishes, separation lines. The plan is a file saved on this PC (in the folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\BIMit\Disegni), not the model.
  3. Check the plan against the drawing: each room's closed space against the area written in the drawing, the openings against tags and the door/window schedule, the walls against the lines of the wall layers; and look at it in a picture laid over the drawing.
  4. Correct the plan where the rules are not enough (a missing wall, a wrong opening, an open room).
  5. Build the plan in the open model in a single step that can be undone, and compare what Revit made with the drawing.

Until the build the model does not change: reading, analysis, checks and corrections work on the drawing and on the plan file.

When to use it

  • You have a project's plan as DWG, DXF or vector PDF and want to start in Revit with walls, openings and rooms already in place.
  • You want to check that the room areas written in the drawing match the space closed by the walls, before and after the build.
  • You have the door/window schedule and want doors and windows to reach the model with their codes and sizes.
  • You want to build the same plan again after correcting it, replacing the earlier build.

The tools

  • Read the drawing — what a drawing holds: layers and their role, blocks, tags, areas, scale; searches texts.
  • Analyze the plan — reads the drawing's plan with fixed rules, saves it as a BIMit plan and checks it.
  • Drawing image — a PNG picture of the plan over the drawing, or of the drawing alone, to check it by eye.
  • Check the plan — the plan's rooms, openings and walls checked against the drawing.
  • Correct the plan — deletes, changes and adds elements of the saved plan before building it.
  • Compare with the model — what the model holds of a build, against the plan and the drawing's areas.
  • Build in the model — builds the plan in Revit: levels, walls, columns, doors, windows, separations, rooms.

Good to know

Every change to the model can be undone with Ctrl+Z in Revit; team actions ask for confirmation in Revit.

Where it is in Revit

In the developer's version: BIMit tab › CAD → BIM panel › CAD → BIM. It is not in the public beta. The package has no BIMit window of its own: you use it by asking your AI.
