Developer preview, coming soon. In BIMit 2.1.1 this tool (CAD → BIM package) is only in the developer's version: in the public beta it does not appear on the tab, in the pane or in "All tools", and your AI does not see it. With the developer's version, Paulo offers modelling and consulting.
What it does
Reads the plan of a drawing (DWG, DXF or vector PDF) with fixed rules and turns it into a BIMit plan, a file saved on this PC that describes what Revit will build, in model millimeters:
- walls: pairs of lines of the wall layers with the hatch between them, with thickness and joins;
- columns;
- doors, recognized from their arcs (hinge, swing, one or two leaves), and windows, from the frame as wide as the schedule says near the tag, each with its tag code;
- toilet partitions and panels;
- rooms, with name, written area, finishes and floor level mark;
- separation lines, for the openings without doors and for the polygons of the drawing's areas.
What the rules cannot decide is never guessed: it goes to the unresolved items (irrisolti), with its position.
Right after, it checks every room: the space closed by the walls against the area written in the drawing (ok within 0.5%), where a wall is missing ("fughe", leaks) and where the space differs from the polygon the architect drew ("differenze").
The analysis decisions are in "opzioni" and stay written in the plan: layer roles, zone, thicknesses, door/window schedule, finishes, origin.
How it works
- Usually your AI has already used Read the drawing and knows which layers are walls, doors, windows, texts; it calls the tool with the drawing's path and, when needed, the options (layer roles, zone, thicknesses, schedule).
- BIMit analyzes the drawing on the PC where Revit runs, saves the plan in the folder
%LOCALAPPDATA%\BIMit\Disegniand checks it against the drawing. The model is not touched. - Your AI gets the summary (walls by kind and thickness, columns, openings by code, rooms, separations), the room check, the rooms to look at, the codes whose counts differ, the wall coverage and the unresolved items, and suggests the next steps: look at the Drawing image, fix things with Correct the plan, then Build in the model.
Example requests
- "Analyze the ground floor plan in P:\Projects\School\GroundFloor.dwg: the walls are on layer A-WALL, the doors on A-DOOR."
- "Run the analysis again with 15 and 30 cm thicknesses and the schedule you read: PA1 door 90×210, W1 window 120×140 with a 90 cm sill."
- "Analyze page 3 of the PDF at 1:50 and show me the plan picture too."
What changes and how to undo
It writes only the plan file (<id>.pianta.json) in the folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\BIMit\Disegni of this PC, never next to the drawing and never in the model. The drawing is not changed.
A new analysis with the same id replaces the saved plan, including the corrections made with Correct the plan; the revision goes up by one. To keep a different version, use another "id". There is no Ctrl+Z for the file: you go back by running the analysis again or by correcting the plan.
Limits
- The AI level "Read" is enough; you choose the level with the "Level" button on the BIMit tab.
- Formats read: DWG from R14 to 2018 (and later versions with the same format), DXF from R12, vector PDF; a scanned PDF cannot be analyzed.
- The rules work on a clean architectural drawing: layers with clear names, wall hatches, door and window tags, written room areas. Where the drawing is ambiguous, roles, zone, thicknesses and schedule are given in "opzioni".
- Without "zona" the plan is the largest cluster of wall lines; a zone that is too large is refused (narrow "zona").
- Without "id" the plan is named after the file (for a multi-page PDF, the page too).
Parameters
| Parameter | Meaning |
|---|---|
percorso | Required. Full path of the drawing: .dwg, .dxf or vector .pdf (on disk or on the network). |
pagina | PDF: the page (default 1). |
scala | PDF: the drawing's scale (100 for 1:100). Default: the one written on the sheet, otherwise 100. |
unita | DWG/DXF: the drawing's units when the file gets them wrong (m, cm, mm, in, ft). Default: the file's, checked on the doors. |
opzioni | Analysis decisions, optional: ruoli {role: [layers, * allowed]}; zona [x0, y0, x1, y1] in drawing meters; spessori (e.g. [15, 20], in cm, mm or m); abaco {code: {tipo: porta or finestra, larghezza, altezza, davanzale, ante, apertura: battente or scorrevole, in_divisoria, quantita}}; colori_campitura; colori_spessori (hatch color → thickness); finiture (the order of the codes under the room name, e.g. floor, walls, ceiling); origine [x, y], the drawing point that becomes the model's 0,0; varco_massimo in m. |
id | The plan's id. Default: from the file name. A new analysis with the same id replaces it. |
immagine | true: also answers with the picture of the whole plan over the drawing. Default false (the picture is asked with Drawing image). |
