MEP › Sleeves

Reads

Finds where MEP runs cross walls, floors and structure, links included, and tells how many sleeves would be created and with which sizes, without changing the model.

What it does

Looks for the crossings like "Place the sleeves" in the "Sleeves and openings" window, but creates nothing. It returns:

  • how many crossings need covering, how many sleeves Create sleeves would create after merging nearby openings (and how many merged openings instead of how many sleeves), and the first code it would use;
  • for each category of crossed elements: crossings, already covered by a BIMit sleeve, overlapping, grazing, surface, ending inside, errors;
  • what was read: MEP elements per category, runs, elements to cross, runs below the minimum size or without an axis, BIMit sleeves already there, crossings coming out of an existing sleeve (run moved or sleeve too small) and which of those sleeves must be kept or checked;
  • the notes of the window and the options used;
  • the list of planned openings, before merging: category and crossed element (of the current model or of a link), size, length, center and direction in mm.

The counts: "overlapping" when at the same point the run also crosses another element (for example a wall under a beam: a single, longer sleeve); "grazing" when the run goes inside or along the element; "surface" when it only touches it (less than 20 mm, or 90% of the thickness if the element is thinner); "ending inside" when the run ends in the element (for example in a piece of equipment). These cases get no sleeve.

How it works

  1. Your AI chooses the models of the MEP runs and of the elements to cross (the keys come from Linked MEP models) and any options that differ from the saved ones.
  2. BIMit reads the runs and the elements, links included with their position, follows the runs through couplings, unions, valves and straight tees, works out the openings and simulates the merging of nearby openings. It opens no transaction.
  3. You get the summary with the numbers per category; if it looks right, ask to create the sleeves with the same choices.

Example requests

  • "How many sleeves would the MEP runs of the current model need in the walls and floors of the linked structural model?"
  • "Analyze sleeves only for the selected pipes, with 30 mm clearance, without creating anything."
  • "Are there BIMit sleeves that a run now comes out of?"

What changes and how to undo

Nothing: the tool only reads. The model and the options file stay as they are (the options given apply only to this analysis). If a model given does not exist, BIMit lists the available ones; if you ask for the selection only and no MEP runs are selected in the current model, it says so.

Limits

Also works when your AI's access level is Read. Works on a project, not a family. The selection and the ids apply to the runs of the current model; from links it takes every run. On large models the search can take a while (the answer reports the seconds).

Parameters

ParameterMeaning
opzioniFields to change from the saved options (names and meanings in Options), for example {"floors": false, "clearance": 30}. Sizes in mm.
predefinitetrue to start from the defaults instead of the saved options (default false).
modelli_impiantiModels to take the MEP runs from: keys doc (current model) or link-<id>, name, link id or file name. Default: the current model.
modelli_attraversatiModels with the elements to cross. Default: every model that has some.
solo_selezionetrue to use only the runs selected now in Revit in the current model.
idsOnly these runs of the current model (ids), like a selection.
limiteHow many planned openings to list (default 200; 0 = none).
