What it does
Reads the options of the "Sleeves and openings" window, the same ones the window offers when it opens and the starting point of Analyze and Create sleeves. It returns:
- the path of the options file (
Mep_Manicotti.jsonin BIMit's folder on your PC) and whether it has been saved yet; - the current options and the defaults;
- what each field means;
- the first new code and the highest code already in the model with the same prefix, when a project is open;
- a note on the calculation: opening = outside size of the run + 2 × insulation (if on) + 2 × clearance, rounded up to the standard sizes if asked; length = stretch inside the element + 2 × projection (not rounded); if the size of a run cannot be read, Ø100 + 2 × clearance.
The option fields (sizes in mm):
| Field | Meaning | Default |
|---|---|---|
pipes, ducts, conduits, cable_trays | Runs considered: pipes (flexible ones too), ducts (flexible ones too), conduits, cable trays. | all yes |
min_pipes, min_ducts, min_conduits, min_cable_trays | Minimum size per category: below it, no sleeve. Outside diameter (not the nominal size) or larger side, without insulation; 0 = no minimum. | 50 |
walls, floors, columns, framing | Crosses walls, floors and slabs, structural columns, structural framing. | yes |
foundations, roofs, ceilings | Crosses structural foundations, roofs, ceilings. | no |
shape | Opening shape: Auto (like the run: round for pipes, conduits and round ducts, rectangular for rectangular or oval ducts and cable trays), Round (always round), Rectangular (always rectangular, square for a pipe). | Auto |
clearance | Clearance per side between the run (with insulation) and the opening, 0 to 1000. | 50 |
insulation | Adds the insulation thickness of pipes and ducts. | yes |
overhang | Projection per face: how far the sleeve sticks out of each face of the element, 0 to 1000. | 25 |
snap | Rounds each side (or the diameter) up to the first standard size equal or larger; beyond the last, multiples of 50 mm. | yes |
sizes | The standard sizes. | 50 75 100 125 150 200 250 300 350 400 450 500 600 700 800 |
merge | Merges nearby openings of the same element, parallel within 5°, chains included, into one rectangular opening. | yes |
merge_gap | Largest distance between the edges of two openings to merge, 0 to 2000. | 50 |
skip_grazing | Skips runs grazing or parallel to the element (crossing longer than 4 times the thickness). | yes |
skip_duplicates | Skips where a BIMit sleeve already holds the run; two elements crossed at the same point get a single, longer sleeve. | yes |
prefix | Code prefix, followed by 4 digits; numbering continues after the highest number with the same prefix in the model. | MAN- |
The chosen models, the selection and the workset are not part of the options: they are given with each request.
How it works
- Your AI reads the options before analyzing or creating sleeves, or when you ask how they are set.
- BIMit reads the options file on your PC and, in the open project, the codes of the sleeves already there to work out the first new code.
- You get the options with their meaning; to change them for good use Save options, for a single run just give them in the request.
Example requests
- "Which options would the sleeves be created with? Explain clearance and projection."
- "What will the code of the next sleeve be?"
- "What are the standard opening sizes and the default options?"
What changes and how to undo
Nothing: the tool only reads. The model and the options file stay as they are. If the file is missing or damaged, BIMit shows the defaults.
Limits
Also works when your AI's access level is Read. The options are per user, on the PC where Revit runs; the first new code is worked out only with a project open, not a family.
