Linked MEP models

Technical name: mep_modelli

MEP › Systems

Reads

Lists the current model and the linked, loaded Revit models, with the MEP elements, elements to pass through, rooms and phases of each, the selected MEP elements and the worksets.

What it does

Reads the current model and the linked, loaded Revit models, which can be the source of the MEP runs, of the elements to pass through or of the rooms. For each model (one entry for each copy of a link) it reports:

  • the key to pass to the other MEP tools (doc for the current model, link-<id> for a link), the name, the file and its path, the link id;
  • the MEP runs by category: pipes (flex pipes included), ducts (flex ducts included), conduits, cable trays and the total;
  • the elements to pass through by category: walls, floors, structural columns, structural framing, structural foundations, roofs, ceilings;
  • for links, how many rooms they contain and their phases.

It also reports how many MEP runs are selected right now in Revit in the current model, whether the model is workshared and, if so, its worksets with the active one, and the choice the Sleeves window proposes when it opens (MEP runs from the current model, elements to pass through from the models that contain them). The keys are used by the tools of the Sleeves and Rooms and spaces packages.

How it works

  1. Your AI calls the tool, with no parameters, usually before working on MEP runs or links.
  2. BIMit reads the current model and the loaded links in Revit and counts the elements by category. Nothing changes.
  3. Your AI gets the list of models with their keys and uses it to choose where to take MEP runs, elements to pass through or rooms from, or to answer you.

Example requests

  • "Which linked models are there and how many MEP elements does each one have?"
  • "In the linked structural model, how many walls, floors and beams are there?"
  • "How many MEP elements have I selected in Revit, and which workset am I working on?"

What changes and how to undo

Nothing: the tool only reads the model and writes no files.

Limits

  • Needs an open project in Revit.
  • Only loaded Revit links appear; unloaded or missing ones are not listed. Two copies of the same link are two entries, with a numbered name.
  • Rooms and phases are counted only in linked models.

Parameters

No parameters.
