Find clashes

Reads

Tells which elements of the current model intersect the given elements, solid against solid, and returns the pairs with id, name and category.

What it does

For every element given, it looks for the elements of the current model whose solids intersect it: to check a pipe you just created against structure and walls, or a group of elements against some categories. It returns:

  • the total number of clashes found;
  • the pairs: the element checked and the one intersecting it, each with id, name and category (up to the limit given);
  • the elements that could not be checked, with the reason;
  • when nothing is found, a note: elements without a solid, such as lines, are not checked.

The check can be limited to some categories: then only intersections with elements of those categories count. The tool does not tell intended intersections apart (for example between elements joined or connected to each other): it reports every pair it finds. It does not look inside linked models and changes nothing.

How it works

  1. Your AI passes the ids of the elements to check, usually taken from the selection or from an element just created, and optionally the categories to check them against.
  2. BIMit searches Revit, first by bounding box and then by solid, for the elements that intersect each of the given ones.
  3. You get the list of pairs with their ids, to select the elements or fix the route.

Example requests

  • "Does the pipe I selected hit any beam or column?"
  • "Check whether ducts 412345 and 412346 touch walls or floors."
  • "List all the clashes of the selected elements, at most 50 pairs."

What changes and how to undo

Nothing: the tool only reads. The model and the files stay as they are. If an id matches no element, BIMit says so and checks nothing; if a category does not exist, it asks for the Revit name, the OST_… key or the English name.

Limits

Also works when your AI's access level is Read. Checks only the current model, not linked models: for crossings with links use Analyze. At most 2000 pairs per answer (200 if not given); the total still counts every clash.

Parameters

ParameterMeaning
elementiThe ids of the elements to check (at least one; each must exist in the model).
categorieAgainst these categories: Revit name, OST_… key or English name (for example "Walls"). Empty: every element.
limiteHow many pairs to return at most (default 200, from 1 to 2000).
