What it does
Does what "Place the sleeves" does in the "Sleeves and openings" window:
- looks for where pipes, ducts, conduits and cable trays cross the chosen elements (walls, floors, structure and, when switched on, foundations, roofs, ceilings), in the current model and in linked models;
- works out each opening from the options (size of the run, insulation, clearance, rounding up to the standard sizes, projection per face) and merges nearby openings in the same element into one rectangular opening;
- skips runs below the minimum size, grazing or ending inside the element, and crossings already covered by a BIMit sleeve;
- numbers the sleeves from the bottom up, after the highest code already in the model with the same prefix (for example MAN-0001, MAN-0002…);
- creates in the current model, when missing, the text instance parameters BIMit_Manicotto_Dimensione, BIMit_Manicotto_Codice and BIMit_Manicotto_Quota for Generic Models, from BIMit's own shared parameter file (Revit's shared parameter file setting is restored);
- creates one Generic Model (DirectShape) per opening, with the size, the code and the elevation of its bottom from the level below; in workshared models it goes in the chosen workset or the active one.
It returns the outcome, how many sleeves were created, the first and last code, the merged openings, the creation errors, the workset, the table per category as in the window, the notes, the options used and the ids created. If asked, it selects the new sleeves in Revit and shows them.
How it works
- Your AI chooses the models and any options, usually after checking the result with Analyze.
- BIMit looks for the crossings and creates parameters and sleeves in a single Revit operation, "BIMit: sleeves". It does not ask for confirmation.
- You see the sleeves in the model and get the report; like the window's button, BIMit saves the options used for the next time, unless you ask it not to.
Example requests
- "Create the sleeves for the MEP runs of the current model in the walls and floors of the linked architectural model."
- "Place sleeves only for the selected pipes, in the Openings workset, then select them for me."
- "Create the sleeves with always rectangular openings and prefix MAN-P2-, without saving these options."
What changes and how to undo
Adds the sleeves (Generic Models) to the current model and, when missing, the three BIMit_Manicotto_ parameters for Generic Models; linked models are not touched and existing sleeves are never deleted. Everything happens in a single Revit operation, "BIMit: sleeves": one Ctrl+Z in Revit undoes sleeves and parameters. If Revit rolls back the creation because of an error of its own, the model is not changed and BIMit reports it. If a parameter with the same name already exists but as a type parameter or not as text, that parameter is not written and the answer says so. If there is no new sleeve to create, the model does not change.
Unless salva_opzioni is false, the options used replace the ones saved in the file Mep_Manicotti.json on your PC; this is not undone with Ctrl+Z (save them again with Save options).
Limits
- Your AI's access level must be at least Write.
- Works on a project, not a family; the model must be editable: not read-only, and with no other operation in progress in Revit.
- The selection and the ids apply to the runs of the current model; from links it takes every run.
- With invalid or unknown options it creates nothing and says why.
Every change to the model can be undone with Ctrl+Z in Revit; team actions ask for confirmation in Revit.
Parameters
| Parameter | Meaning |
|---|---|
opzioni | Fields to change from the saved options (names and meanings in Options), for example {"floors": false, "clearance": 30}. Sizes in mm. |
predefinite | true to start from the defaults instead of the saved options (default false). |
modelli_impianti | Models to take the MEP runs from: keys doc (current model) or link-<id>, name, link id or file name. Default: the current model. |
modelli_attraversati | Models with the elements to cross. Default: every model that has some. |
solo_selezione | true to use only the runs selected now in Revit in the current model. |
ids | Only these runs of the current model (ids), like a selection. |
workset | Workset of the new sleeves (name or id). Default: the active one. Workshared models only. |
salva_opzioni | Saves the options used for the window, like the button (default true). |
seleziona | true to select the new sleeves in Revit and show them, like "Select the new sleeves" (default false). |
