Writes files

Changes the model's export settings and saves them in the linked preset.

What it does

Changes the model's export settings and saves them in the linked preset, the .json file that BIMit's "Export" window (Esporta tavole) also opens. Your AI sends only what changes, for example turning DWG on or changing the sheet file-name pattern; everything else stays as it is.

You can change the folder (also with variables such as {model_name}, {project_number}, {date:yyyy-MM-dd} or Windows %VARIABLES%), a subfolder per format, the drawing register, the sheet and view file-name patterns with {fields} and {param:Name}, prefix and suffix, the selection, the advanced options and the options of every format: PDF, DWG, DGN, DWF/DWFx, NWC, IFC, images, sheet data and report.

History, saved selections, scheduled exports, per-item settings and the order of the combined PDF are not changed here: they have their own tools, and if your AI sends them they are ignored with a warning.

How it works

  1. Your AI reads the settings with Preset and prepares only the entries to change.
  2. BIMit merges the changes into the current settings, checks the values (for example PDF colors, paper sizes, IFC versions, image resolution) and stops if one is not valid.
  3. BIMit saves the preset and links it to the model; your AI receives the path, the saved settings and the warnings: unknown entries, a DWG or DGN setup that does not exist in the project, the NWC exporter missing on this PC, folder variables or name parameters that would stay empty.

Example requests

  • "Export DWG too, with merged views, and put the files in one subfolder per format."
  • "Name the sheet PDFs with project number, sheet number and sheet name, separated by underscores."
  • "Start again from the default settings and save the preset in the project folder, so colleagues can use it too."

What changes and how to undo

The .json file of the preset linked to the model changes. If the model has none yet, BIMit creates it in Documents\BIMit\<model>_Esporta.json; with percorso it saves it where you say (like "Save preset as..."). Either way, from then on the model uses that file. The Revit model does not change.

Ctrl+Z does not undo this change, because it is in a file: to go back, ask your AI to put the previous values back (it sees them with Preset), or apply a profile you saved earlier with Apply profile. With nuovo the export history starts over.

Limits

AI level required: Write (it writes a file on this PC), which only you choose in Revit.

Parameters

ParameterMeaning
presetRequired. The settings to change, with the preset's keys, for example {"dwg":{"enabled":true},"pattern_sheets":"{project_number}_{sheet_number}"}.
nuovotrue to start from the default settings (default profile or BIMit's defaults) instead of the linked ones; the history starts over (default false).
percorsoSave as: where to save the .json, for example in the project folder for colleagues. Default: the linked file, otherwise Documents\BIMit\<model>_Esporta.json.
