Create walls

Technical name: crea_muri

Modelling › Walls and floors

Writes the model

Creates walls along a polyline, one wall per segment joined at the ends, with the type, level, height or top constraint and drawing line you choose.

What it does

Creates straight walls along a polyline: one wall for each segment, joined at the ends. The vertices are [x, y] points in millimeters, measured from the project's internal origin; your AI can take them from the model or ask you to click them in Revit with Ask for a point.

  • With "chiuso" the polyline returns to the first point. A closed outline is turned clockwise, so the exterior side of the walls faces out.
  • The drawn line is the wall's centerline (default), or its left or right face relative to the drawing direction: in that case BIMit shifts the centerline by half the type's thickness.
  • You choose the wall type, the base level, the base offset, the height (default 3000 mm) or a top constraint to a level, and whether the wall is structural.
  • Segments shorter than the minimum length Revit accepts are skipped.

After creating them, BIMit reads the walls back and compares them with the request: one wall per segment, position, type, level, base offset, top constraint, height, structural, joins at the ends and, for a closed outline, the exterior side. It also looks for new clashes in the area and collects Revit's warnings.

How it works

  1. Your AI calls the tool with the vertices and the options (type, level, height or top level, drawing line). With "prova" it can simulate first: it sees what would be added and the model goes back to how it was.
  2. BIMit creates the walls in Revit in a single operation, answers any Revit dialogs that open on its own (OK by default) and, if Revit reports an error, rolls everything back: the model stays as it was. There is no confirmation in Revit: the walls are created when your AI calls the tool.
  3. BIMit reads the new walls back: "verifica", at the top of the result, says ok, warnings or problems, with the element ids and what to do. A mismatch does not undo the change by itself.
  4. Your AI reports the walls created (ids), the type with its thickness, the level and the height; if you ask, also a picture of the area before and after.

Example requests

  • "Create the perimeter walls of a 12 × 8 m rectangle with its corner at the origin, on the Ground Floor, up to Level 1."
  • "Let me click the points in Revit and create a 100 mm partition 2.70 m high along them."
  • "Draw a structural wall with its exterior face on the line I give you, as a dry run first."

What changes and how to undo

Adds the walls to the model, one per segment. Everything happens in a single Revit operation, which appears in the Undo list with BIMit's name and "crea muri": a single Ctrl+Z in Revit removes all the walls of the call. With "prova" the model does not change. If your AI opened a Work session, the walls created can also be removed with Undo the session.

Limits

  • Needs the AI level "Write" (the default), which you choose with the "Level" button on the BIMit tab.
  • Needs an open project that can be edited in Revit, with no other operation in progress.
  • At least 2 points; straight walls only. All the walls of one call have the same type, level and height.
  • Without "tipo" the project's default wall type is used. The type is given by its exact name, as "Family: Type" or by part of the name if that matches only one; otherwise your AI gets the list of types.
  • Without "livello" the level of the active view is used, otherwise the lowest one.
  • With "livello_superiore" the height is set by the top constraint, not by "altezza_mm".
  • Every change to the model can be undone with Ctrl+Z in Revit; team actions ask for confirmation in Revit.

Parameters

ParameterMeaning
puntiVertices [x, y] in mm, from the project's internal origin (also from Ask for a point). At least 2.
chiusotrue: closes the polyline back to the first point; the outline is turned clockwise.
tipoWall type. Default: the project's default wall type.
livelloBase level (name or id). Default: the level of the active view.
altezza_mmHeight in mm (default 3000 when there is no livello_superiore).
livello_superioreTop Constraint: the level the wall goes up to.
offset_mmBase Offset in mm.
filoWhere the drawn line lies: asse (centerline, default), sinistra or destra (the wall's left or right face relative to the drawing direction).
strutturaletrue: structural wall.
provatrue: dry run, reports the changes and rolls everything back.
modificheReports the elements added, modified and deleted (default true).
dialoghiAnswer to Revit dialogs during the operation: ok (default), annulla, si, no, chiudi, link1…link4, a number or mostra (you see them); or one answer per dialog.
verificaCheck after the change: breve (short, default), completa (with the measured values) or no.
immaginitrue: a picture of the area before and one after, cropped to the walls, which your AI sees.
vista_immaginiView for the pictures: attiva (active, default), 3d (a temporary 3D view) or the name or id of a view.
