What it does
Creates a ceiling in one of two ways:
- from an outline: [x, y] points in millimeters, measured from the project's internal origin, which BIMit closes by itself back to the first point;
- from the boundary of a room or a space (its id): BIMit takes the outline at the finish faces of the walls, including inner islands, which become holes in the ceiling.
You choose the ceiling type, the level and the height offset from the level (default 2700 mm). With a room and no "livello", the ceiling goes on the room's level.
After creating it, BIMit reads the ceiling back and compares it with the request: type, level, height offset, closed outline, area (that of the outline or that of the room) and position. It also looks for new clashes in the area and collects Revit's warnings.
How it works
- Your AI calls the tool with the outline or the room id, and with type, level and height. It can take the points from the model or ask you to click them in Revit with Ask for a point. With "prova" it can simulate first: it sees what would be added and the model goes back to how it was.
- BIMit creates the ceiling in Revit in a single operation, answers any Revit dialogs that open on its own (OK by default) and, if Revit reports an error, rolls everything back: the model stays as it was. There is no confirmation in Revit: the ceiling is created when your AI calls the tool.
- BIMit reads the new ceiling back: "verifica", at the top of the result, says ok, warnings or problems, with the ids and what to do. A mismatch does not undo the change by itself.
- Your AI reports the ceiling created (id), the type, the level, the height offset and how many outlines were used; if you ask, also a picture of the area before and after.
Example requests
- "Put a ceiling at 2.70 m in room 2.03."
- "Create a gypsum board ceiling at 2400 mm on the outline I clicked."
- "Add ceilings to the bathrooms on Level 1 at 2.40 m and show me a picture before and after."
What changes and how to undo
Adds a ceiling to the model. Everything happens in a single Revit operation, which appears in the Undo list with BIMit's name and "crea controsoffitto": a single Ctrl+Z in Revit removes it. With "prova" the model does not change. If your AI opened a Work session, the ceiling can also be removed with Undo the session.
Limits
- Needs the AI level "Write" (the default), which you choose with the "Level" button on the BIMit tab.
- Needs an open project that can be edited in Revit, with no other operation in progress.
- Works from Revit 2022 on: in Revit 2021 the Revit API cannot create ceilings, so the ceiling has to be drawn in Revit.
- One ceiling per call. With points you need at least 3 vertices, and the outline is made of straight segments.
- Without "tipo" the first ceiling type in the model in alphabetical order is used. The type is given by its exact name, as "Family: Type" or by part of the name if that matches only one; otherwise your AI gets the list of types.
- Without "livello" the level of the active view is used (with a room, the room's level).
- The room must be placed and enclosed; otherwise it has no boundary and the tool stops.
- Every change to the model can be undone with Ctrl+Z in Revit; team actions ask for confirmation in Revit.
Parameters
| Parameter | Meaning |
|---|---|
punti | Outline [x, y] in mm, from the project's internal origin. At least 3 points. |
locale | Instead of the points: the id of a room or a space, whose boundary is used. |
tipo | Ceiling type. Default: the first one in alphabetical order. |
livello | Level (name or id). Default: the room's level, or the level of the active view. |
offset_mm | Height Offset From Level in mm (default 2700). |
prova | true: dry run, reports the changes and rolls everything back. |
modifiche | Reports the elements added, modified and deleted (default true). |
dialoghi | Answer to Revit dialogs during the operation: ok (default), annulla, si, no, chiudi, link1…link4, a number or mostra (you see them); or one answer per dialog. |
verifica | Check after the change: breve (short, default), completa (with the measured values) or no. |
immagini | true: a picture of the area before and one after, cropped to the ceiling, which your AI sees. |
vista_immagini | View for the pictures: attiva (active, default), 3d (a temporary 3D view) or the name or id of a view. |
