Ask for a point

Reads

Your AI asks you to click one or more points in Revit's active view, with snaps, and receives their coordinates in millimeters.

What it does

Asks you to click one or more points in Revit's active view and passes their coordinates to your AI. It is the most direct way to say "put it here…": instead of dictating measurements, you click in Revit and your AI uses those points with the other tools, for example to create walls or floors or to place a family.

While you click, Revit's snaps apply (endpoints, midpoints, intersections and so on). The message your AI chooses appears in Revit's status bar. The coordinates come back in millimeters, relative to the project's internal origin, together with the name of the view, of the work plane and, in a plan, of the level.

How it works

  1. Your AI calls the tool with a message (for example "Click the corner of the room"), how many points it needs and, if it wants, which snaps to use.
  2. BIMit brings Revit to the front and waits for your clicks in the active view. With several points, the status bar shows where you are (for example 2/4).
  3. You click the points in Revit. Esc before the end finishes with the points already clicked; Esc on the first point cancels the request. Your AI receives the points and carries on.

Example requests

  • "I'll click in Revit the corner where the wall should start."
  • "Ask me for the four corners of the ceiling, snapping to endpoints and intersections."
  • "Let me click where you should put the washbasin."

What changes and how to undo

Normally nothing changes: it only reads your clicks. There is one exception: if the active view is a plan without a work plane, BIMit gives it the work plane of its level (as Revit does with "Set Work Plane"), in a Revit operation that carries BIMit's name and can be undone with Ctrl+Z.

Limits

  • The AI level "Read" is enough; you choose the level with the "Level" button on the BIMit tab.
  • It works only in the active document: if your AI is working on another open document, activate it in Revit first.
  • A 3D view needs a work plane: if there is none, the request stops, and it is best to switch to a plan or set the work plane in Revit.
  • At most 50 points per request. The call waits until you have clicked or pressed Esc.

Parameters

ParameterMeaning
messaggioThe text in Revit's status bar, for example "Click the corner of the room" (default "Clicca un punto").
quantiHow many points to ask for (default 1, at most 50); Esc earlier finishes with those already clicked.
snapThe snaps to use: estremi (endpoints), medi (midpoints), intersezioni (intersections), centri (centers), vicino (nearest), perpendicolare (perpendicular), tangenti (tangents), quadranti (quadrants), punti (points), griglia (work plane grid), nessuno (none); the English names are accepted too. Default: all except tangents and grid.
