Rooms and spaces

MEP › Rooms and spaces

From the rooms of the linked architectural model to the space separation lines of the MEP model, level by level, without duplicating the lines already there.

What it contains

Two tools that prepare MEP spaces from the rooms of a linked Revit model (usually the architectural one). The first reads the rooms and proposes how to match the levels; the second traces the room boundaries as space separation lines on the levels of the current model, in each level's plan view.

The rules are the same as in BIMit's window:

  • only placed rooms of the main model and of the primary design options are used, in the chosen phase (usually the last phase of the link);
  • the boundary is taken at the finish face of the walls, with the inner loops (shafts, free-standing columns);
  • each linked level goes to the nearest level of the current model when it is at most 1 m away; levels further away are matched only when you name them;
  • a segment already drawn, even by hand or in several aligned pieces, is not repeated: only the missing part is added;
  • the lines BIMit creates are marked as BIMit's, so "Replace" deletes only those and never the ones drawn by hand.

The tools do not place the spaces: they trace the lines that bound them. You place the spaces in Revit afterwards.

When to use it

  • At the start of an MEP model that links the architectural model, to get space boundaries that match the rooms without redrawing them.
  • When the linked architectural model changes: run it again in "Add only the missing ones" mode and only the new segments are added.
  • When the rooms have changed a lot: "Replace the ones BIMit created" redraws BIMit's lines on the chosen levels and keeps the lines drawn by hand.
  • When the levels of the two models do not match: the analysis shows the offset and lets you choose which model level each linked level goes to.

The tools

  • Analyze rooms and spaces: for a linked model and a phase, the rooms per level, the proposed model level, the offset and the plan view the lines would be drawn in. Changes nothing.
  • Create the spaces: draws the space separation lines from the room boundaries, only where they are missing or replacing BIMit's, in a single operation undone with one Ctrl+Z.

Good to know

Every change to the model can be undone with Ctrl+Z in Revit; team actions ask for confirmation in Revit.

Where it is in Revit

BIMit tab › MEP panel › Rooms and spaces.

The same operations can be done by hand in BIMit's "Space separation lines" window ("Open window" button): choose the linked model and the room phase, check in the level table the model level, the offset and the plan view of each linked level (you can change it or leave it out), choose "Add only the missing ones" or "Replace the ones BIMit created" and click "Create the lines". If a chosen level is more than 1 m from the model level, the window asks for confirmation; at the end it shows the result per level. The window opens only in a project with at least one loaded linked Revit model and at least one level.
