Writes the model

Connects two MEP elements by their nearest free connectors - directly if they coincide, otherwise between two segments with the right fitting (elbow, transition or union).

What it does

Connects two MEP elements of the current model (pipes, ducts, cable trays, conduits, fixtures, air terminals) starting from their nearest free connectors of the same kind of system.

  • If the two connectors coincide (less than 1 mm apart), it connects them directly.
  • If they are apart and both elements are segments (pipes, ducts, cable trays or conduits), it creates the right fitting between them: BIMit asks Revit first for an elbow, then a transition, then a union, and keeps the first one Revit manages to create. In practice: an elbow if the segments form an angle, a transition if they change size, a union if they are aligned. Revit trims the segments where it inserts the fitting.
  • If one of the two is a fixture or a terminal and the connectors do not coincide, it creates nothing and reports the distance: to start from or end at a fixture, use Create pipes and ducts with "collega_inizio" / "collega_fine".

After the change, BIMit reads the two elements back (and the fitting, if any) and checks that they are really connected, directly or through the fitting. Then it looks for new clashes in the area and collects Revit's warnings.

How it works

  1. Your AI calls the tool with the ids of the two elements, for example the ones you selected in Revit or the ones the check of Create pipes and ducts flagged as close but not connected. With "prova" it can simulate first: it sees what would change and the model goes back to how it was.
  2. BIMit looks for the nearest pair of compatible free connectors and connects them or creates the fitting in Revit in a single operation; it answers Revit dialogs on its own (OK by default) and, if Revit reports an error, rolls everything back. There is no confirmation in Revit.
  3. BIMit reads the elements back: "verifica", at the top of the result, says ok, warnings or problems, with the ids and what to do.
  4. Your AI reports the distance between the connectors, the outcome ("collegati", connected, or "raccordo creato", fitting created) and the fitting created; if it was not possible, the reason Revit gave.

Example requests

  • "Connect the two pipes I selected in Revit."
  • "The check says the end of the duct is not connected to the diffuser: connect them."
  • "Join these two cable tray segments with an elbow."

What changes and how to undo

Connects the connectors of the two elements and, between two segments that are apart, adds a fitting and trims the segments where it goes. Everything happens in a single Revit operation, which appears in the Undo list with BIMit's name and "collega MEP": a single Ctrl+Z in Revit puts everything back. With "prova" the model does not change. If your AI opened a Work session, the fitting created can also be removed with Undo the session; the changes to the two elements are undone with Ctrl+Z.

Limits

  • Needs the AI level "Write" (the default), which you choose with the "Level" button on the BIMit tab.
  • Needs an open project that can be edited in Revit, with no other operation in progress.
  • Two elements of the current model, not of a linked model; if you pass more than two, the first two are used.
  • Both elements need free connectors of the same kind of system; otherwise nothing changes.
  • Revit creates the fitting with the loaded families and the type's routing preferences: if it cannot, the operation stops and your AI gets Revit's errors.
  • Every change to the model can be undone with Ctrl+Z in Revit; team actions ask for confirmation in Revit.

Parameters

ParameterMeaning
elementiThe ids of the two elements to connect.
provatrue: dry run, reports the changes and rolls everything back.

dialoghiAnswer to Revit dialogs during the operation: ok (default), annulla, si, no, chiudi, link1…link4, a number or mostra (you see them); or one answer per dialog.
verificaCheck after the change: breve (short, default), completa (with the measured values) or no.
immaginitrue: a picture of the area before and one after, cropped to the elements, which your AI sees.
vista_immaginiView for the pictures: attiva (active, default), 3d (a temporary 3D view) or the name or id of a view.
