Writes the model

Adds the chosen parameters of a shared parameter file as project parameters on the chosen categories, in a single operation you can undo.

What it does

Like BIMit's "Add shared parameters" window: the chosen parameters of a shared parameter file become project parameters, instance or type, on the chosen categories. It all happens in one Revit operation, "BIMit: add shared parameters".

Parameters are chosen by name or GUID, or by group of the file; categories by their name in Revit's language, their OST name (for example OST_Walls) or id, or all the categories of a kind (Model, Annotation, Analytical, Other). The names of Revit's categories and groups come from Categories and groups in the Parameters package (Parametri).

BIMit recognizes the parameters already in the project by GUID:

  • same GUID, same binding (instance or type): they only get the missing categories and, if asked, the option "Values can vary by group instance"; they keep their group. If nothing is missing they are reported as already there;
  • same GUID, other binding: they stay as they are and are reported as already there;
  • same name, different GUID: they are not added, because the project would have two parameters with the same name.

It writes no values into elements and does not change the shared parameter file; Revit's file setting stays as it was.

How it works

  1. Your AI reads the file with Read shared parameters and calls the tool with the parameters, the categories, the binding (instance or type) and the group the parameters appear under in Properties ("Group parameter under", default Data).
  2. BIMit checks that the parameters are in the file and that the categories exist and accept parameters: if something does not match, it changes nothing and says so. Then it adds or completes the parameters in a single operation. No confirmation is asked: the parameters are added when your AI calls the tool.
  3. Your AI tells you how many parameters were added, updated (with the extra categories), already there and not added, with the reason.

Example requests

  • "Add the Room_Code parameter from the shared file as an instance parameter on Rooms and Doors, under Identity Data."
  • "Add all the parameters of the MEP group of C:\Standards\Office_parameters.txt to all model categories."
  • "The Work_Phase parameter is already on Walls: add it to Floors and Ceilings too."

What changes and how to undo

The model's project parameters change: new shared parameters bound to the chosen categories, or extra categories (and the group option) for those already there. It all happens in one Revit operation, "BIMit: add shared parameters": a single Ctrl+Z in Revit undoes it. If there is nothing to add or complete, the model does not change. If Revit refuses the change, the operation is rolled back and the model stays as it was. No file is written.

Limits

  • Needs the AI level "Write" (the default), which you choose with the "Level" button on the BIMit tab.
  • Works on a project, not on a family; it does not work if the model is read-only or Revit has an operation in progress.
  • At least one parameter (parametri or gruppi_file) and at least one category (categorie or tipi_categoria) are needed. A name that appears more than once in the file must be given by GUID.
  • raggruppa_sotto applies only to new parameters; varia_per_gruppo only to instance parameters.
  • In workshared models a parameter already in the project that another user has in use, or that changed in the central model, is not modified and is listed among those not added.
  • Every change to the model can be undone with Ctrl+Z in Revit; team actions ask for confirmation in Revit.

Parameters

ParameterMeaning
percorsoThe .txt file. Empty: the one set in Revit.
parametriNames or GUIDs of the file's parameters. A name that appears more than once in the file must be given by GUID.
gruppi_fileAdd all the parameters of these groups of the file.
categorieCategories: OST name (OST_Walls), name in Revit's language or id.
tipi_categoriaAdd all the categories of these kinds: Modello (Model), Annotazione (Annotation), Analitico (Analytical), Altro (Other).
legameistanza (instance, default) or tipo (type).
raggruppa_sottoProperties group (name in Revit's language or id; "Altro" or "other" for no group). Default: Data. Applies only to new parameters.
varia_per_gruppoValues can vary by group instance (instance parameters only; also applies to those already in the project). Default false.
