What it contains
Three tools to clean up the parameters of loaded families without opening them by hand one by one. They are the same steps as BIMit's "Family parameters" window (Parametri famiglie), done by your AI.
Families are chosen by name or id, or by scope: those of the elements visible in the active view (the default), those of the elements selected in Revit, or all those in the project. In-place families and non-editable families are left out and counted; walls, floors and the other system elements have no loaded family.
To read the parameters, BIMit opens each family in the background, without saving it, and closes it again. For each parameter that can be removed (Revit's built-in parameters cannot) it tells whether it is shared, instance or type, its data type, its formula and whether it is used in other parameters' formulas, in dimensions or in associations. When deleting, BIMit removes the parameters from each family and reloads it into the project, keeping the values of the remaining parameters. The .rfa files on disk are not touched.
When to use it
- To find out which loaded families are in a view, in the selection or in the whole project.
- To find parameters repeated across many families, for example those that came with families downloaded from manufacturers.
- To see which parameters are not used in any formula, dimension or association before deciding what to remove.
- To delete the same parameters from many families in one go, instead of opening and reloading each family in the Family Editor.
The tools
- Family list: the editable loaded families of the active view, the selection or the project, with id, name and category. Changes nothing.
- Family parameters: the removable parameters of the chosen families, with shared, instance or type, data type, formula and usage. Changes nothing.
- Delete family parameters: removes the chosen parameters from the families and reloads them into the project, then checks the result.
Good to know
Every change to the model can be undone with Ctrl+Z in Revit; team actions ask for confirmation in Revit.
Where it is in Revit
BIMit tab › Data panel › Families. From the package, "Open window" opens BIMit's "Family parameters" window: choose the families to scan (In the active view, Selected, All families in the project) and press "Scan the families"; in the list you search by parameter, family or category, filter and pick the parameters to remove. Before deleting, the window asks for confirmation and warns if any parameter is used in formulas, dimensions or associations.
