What it does
Returns the loaded families that can be edited, with id, name and category, sorted by name. Where to look is chosen with the scope:
- active view (default): the families of the elements visible in the active view, or in another view given by name or id; tags and other annotations count too;
- selection: the families of the elements selected in Revit;
- project: all the families loaded in the project.
In-place families and non-editable families are left out and only counted. Walls, floors and the other system elements have no loaded family, so they do not appear. It is the first step to choose the families whose parameters you want to read or clean up.
How it works
- Your AI picks the scope from your request and calls the tool.
- BIMit gathers in Revit the families of the elements in the scope, sets aside the in-place or non-editable ones and sorts the others by name.
- Your AI gets the list, with the scope used and how many families were left out, and shows it to you.
Example requests
- "Which loaded families are in the active view?"
- "List the families of the elements I selected."
- "Give me all the families in the project, grouped by category."
What changes and how to undo
Nothing: the tool only reads and changes neither the model nor any file.
Limits
- It works on a project, not on a family open in the Family Editor.
- With the selection scope, at least one element must be selected in Revit. If families cannot be searched in the view, BIMit says so: use the selection or the whole project.
