Ask for elements

What it does

Asks you to pick something in Revit and passes it to your AI: one or more elements (also with a rectangle), one or more faces, an edge or a point on an element. It is the way to say "this one" without looking up ids or names: your AI then works on exactly what you pointed at.

For each pick your AI receives the element's id, category and name. For faces, edges and points it also receives the geometric reference (used, for example, to place a family on that face), the clicked point in millimeters and, for a face, its normal. Your AI can limit the pick to some categories: other elements cannot be selected.

How it works

1. Your AI calls the tool saying what to pick (elements, one element, a rectangle, a face, several faces, an edge, a point) and, if needed, a message and the allowed categories.
2. BIMit brings Revit to the front and starts the selection; the message appears in the status bar. For several elements or faces, end the pick with "Finish" on the Options Bar.
3. You pick in Revit. Esc cancels the request. The picked elements stay selected in Revit and your AI receives the list.

Example requests

• "I'll select in Revit the walls to change: ask me for them."
• "Let me pick the face of the wall where the socket goes."
• "Ask me with a rectangle for the doors in this area, doors only."

What changes and how to undo

The model does not change: only the selection in Revit changes, because the picked elements stay selected. To clear the selection, press Esc in Revit or click an empty spot in the view.

Limits

• The AI level "Read" is enough; you choose the level with the "Level" button on the BIMit tab.
• It works only in the active document: if your AI is working on another open document, activate it in Revit first.
• The call waits until you have picked or pressed Esc.
