What it does
Synchronizes the active document (or the one you name) with its central model, like Revit's Synchronize with Central command: Revit loads your colleagues' changes into your model and saves yours to the central, where everyone sees them.
Your AI can propose the synchronization options:
- a comment, which stays in the central;
- what to relinquish after synchronizing: everything (as Revit usually does: borrowed elements and worksets), only the borrowed elements (the worksets stay yours) or nothing;
- whether to compact the central (slower);
- whether to save the local copy before and after (yes, as Revit does, unless you say otherwise).
It synchronizes nothing on its own: you decide, every time, in a Revit dialog.
How it works
- You ask your AI to synchronize; it prepares the request with the options and gets the job number right away, without being blocked.
- BIMit checks the document and brings Revit to the front with a dialog saying what is asked: document, central model, comment, what is relinquished afterwards, compacting or local save turned off if that is the case, and what will happen.
- To approve, tick "I have read the request: I approve this action only" and choose "Approve: synchronize now"; "Deny" does nothing. Revit synchronizes right away with those options.
- Meanwhile your AI follows the request with Job status and at the end gets the result: document, central, comment, what was relinquished, whether it was compacted and how many seconds it took. Until you answer, it can withdraw the request with Cancel the job.
Example requests
- "Synchronize with central with the comment 'Ground floor plan revision'."
- "Synchronize but keep my worksets: relinquish only the borrowed elements."
- "Synchronize and compact the central."
What changes and how to undo
After your approval, your model receives your colleagues' changes and the central receives yours, for the whole team; if you chose so, elements and worksets are relinquished and the central is compacted. If you deny the request, or your AI withdraws it before you answer, nothing changes.
A synchronization cannot be undone with Ctrl+Z: what reaches the central, everyone sees. That is why it always asks for your approval in Revit.
Limits
Your AI's access level must be Team: only you raise it in Revit (Level), for a time you choose, and it goes back to the default level when that time ends and at every Revit start.
- The document must be a workshared model attached to its central: not a family, not a model opened detached, not read-only, and with no operation in progress in Revit.
- If the central is locked because a colleague is saving it, BIMit does not wait: the synchronization fails and you try again later.
- The dialog only accepts an answer given by a person: with the box ticked and after reading it; while Revit is playing a journal the request is denied.
- While the dialog is open, the other tools that use Revit answer that Revit is busy.
- Only one synchronization request at a time can wait for your answer.
- A worker Revit (opened by BIMit in the background) does not do team actions.
