Writes the model

Traces the room boundaries of a linked model as space separation lines on the levels of the current model, drawing only the missing segments, in a single operation undone with one Ctrl+Z.

What it does

Does what the "Create the lines" button of the "Space separation lines" window does: it traces the room boundaries of a linked Revit model as space separation lines on the levels of the current model, each in the plan view of its level. It does not place the spaces: it traces the lines that bound them; you place the spaces in Revit afterwards.

  • The boundary is taken at the finish face of the walls, with the inner loops (shafts, free-standing columns).
  • It uses only placed rooms of the main model and of the primary design options, in the chosen phase (default: the last phase of the link).
  • When nothing is said, it works on every linked level that has a model level within 1 m. With livelli you choose which linked levels to trace and on which model level, even beyond 1 m.
  • It draws only the missing segments: a segment already there, even drawn by hand or in several aligned pieces, is not repeated; if part of it is missing, only that part is added.
  • With sostituisci on, it first deletes, on the chosen levels, the lines BIMit created (usually only those made from this link) and redraws them from the rooms. Lines drawn by hand are never deleted.
  • The lines go into a floor plan of the level; if there is none, into a ceiling plan or a structural plan. Levels without a plan view are skipped and reported.

At the end it reports, in total and per level, the lines created, the segments already there, those partly completed, the lines deleted and those not replaced, the segments too short for Revit, those not created, the rooms without a boundary, the levels without a plan view and those with an offset over 1 m. On request it also returns the ids of the lines created.

How it works

  1. Your AI chooses the linked model, the phase and the levels, usually after reading the proposal with Analyze rooms and spaces.
  2. BIMit reads the room boundaries in Revit, brings them to the elevation of each model level and draws the missing lines in a single operation, "BIMit: space separation lines".
  3. You see the lines in the model's plan views and get the report. The tool does not ask for confirmation, not even for levels with an offset over 1 m (the window does): it reports them in the result. To see first what will happen, ask for the analysis.

Example requests

  • "Create the space separation lines from the rooms of the linked architectural model, only where they are missing."
  • "The architecture has changed: replace the lines BIMit created on the Ground Floor and Level 1."
  • "Trace the rooms of the link's Roof level on our Attic level."

What changes and how to undo

It adds space separation lines to the current model and, with sostituisci, deletes lines BIMit created earlier; the linked model is not touched. Everything happens in a single Revit operation, "BIMit: space separation lines": one Ctrl+Z in Revit undoes it all, deletions included.

If, at commit, Revit reports that some of the new lines are too short, BIMit removes them and counts them as too short; Revit's warnings are closed. If Revit reports an error instead, the whole operation is rolled back, the model is not changed and the error text is in the notes. In workshared models, BIMit lines in use by other users or changed in the central model are not deleted: they stay, are counted as not replaced, and the note suggests reloading the latest changes or asking for them to be released, then running again.

Limits

Your AI's access level must be at least Write. It works on a project with at least one loaded linked Revit model and at least one level; it does not change a read-only model and does not start while another operation is in progress in Revit. If no linked level has a model level within 1 m and you do not give livelli, it draws nothing and says so. Every change to the model can be undone with Ctrl+Z in Revit; team actions ask for confirmation in Revit.

Parameters

ParameterMeaning
modelloThe linked model with the rooms: key or name as given by Linked MEP models (mep_modelli), or the link instance id. Default: the first in alphabetical order.
faseName or id of the room phase, or "tutte" (all). Default: the last phase of the link.
livelliList of the linked levels to trace, each with the chosen model level. Default: all those with a model level within 1 m.
livelli[].collegatoName or id of the level of the linked model (required in each item).
livelli[].modelloName or id of the level of the current model to trace it on. Default: the proposed one (the nearest).
sostituiscitrue: "Replace the ones BIMit created"; false (default): "Add only the missing ones".
solo_questo_collegamentoWith sostituisci: delete only the BIMit lines made from this link (default true); false deletes every line BIMit created on the chosen levels.
elenca_idstrue to also get the ids of the lines created (default false).
