Export for AI

Technical name: esporta_per_ia

Data › Export for AI

Writes files

Exports the model as CSV tables plus the 00_INDEX.md index into a new subfolder, without changing the model.

What it does

Does what the "Export" button of the "Export for AI" window does: it reads the model once and writes the chosen tables as CSV files, plus the index 00_INDEX.md that explains tables and columns. The files go into a new subfolder of the exports folder, named after the model, the date and the time (for example Building A_2026-09-28_1432); if it already exists, _2, _3… is added. An earlier export is never overwritten.

If your AI does not name the tables, BIMit uses those chosen last time in the window; it can also ask for "tutte" (all), "senza_grandi" (all except type and element parameters; elements stay) or single tables by file, key or name. If it does not name the folder, BIMit uses the one saved by the window, otherwise Documents\BIMit\AI exports (the name follows BIMit's language).

Values are in SI units (meters, square meters, cubic meters, degrees), Yes/No as true/false, numbers with a decimal point. At the end it returns the subfolder, the total rows written, the number of instances and types, the duration, the rows of each table and whether it is complete, the tables not written, the errors, the skipped elements and, unless asked otherwise, the text of the index.

How it works

  1. Your AI chooses the tables and the folder (or uses the window's saved choices) and starts the export.
  2. BIMit reads the model in Revit without opening any transaction, creates the subfolder, writes the tables one after the other and the index at the end. If asked, it opens the subfolder in File Explorer.
  3. You get the summary with the subfolder; then your AI reads the tables with Read the export, starting from the index.

Example requests

  • "Export the model for analysis, without the large tables."
  • "Export only elements, levels and warnings to D:\Analysis and open the folder when done."
  • "Export all tables and remember this choice for the Export for AI window."

What changes and how to undo

The model does not change: BIMit only reads. A new subfolder with the CSV files and 00_INDEX.md is created on disk; to remove it, delete it in File Explorer. With ricorda on, the folder and the chosen tables become the choices of the "Export for AI" window (saved in ai_export.json in BIMit's settings); you change them again from the window or with another export with ricorda.

If a type or an element cannot be read, BIMit skips it and reports it; if a table has an error, it is marked as incomplete. The index is written in these cases too.

Limits

AI level required: Write (it writes files on this PC).

  • Works on a project, not on a family open in the Family Editor.
  • On a large model it can take minutes; the element parameters table can reach millions of rows.
  • In a workshared model, elements of closed worksets are not loaded by Revit and so do not end up in the tables.
  • At least one table is needed; if the folder cannot be created or used, BIMit says so and writes nothing.

Parameters

ParameterMeaning
tabelleTables to export: file or key (e.g. 06_elements), Italian name (e.g. "Elementi"), or "tutte" (all), "senza_grandi" (all except type and element parameters), "salvate" (the saved ones). Default: those chosen last time in the window.
cartellaExports folder, where the subfolder is created. Default: the one saved by the window, otherwise Documents\BIMit\AI exports.
indiceReturn the text of 00_INDEX.md (default true).
apri_cartellaOpen the subfolder in File Explorer at the end (default false).
ricordaSave folder and tables as the window's choices, as "Export" does (default false).
