Move level

Model › Levels

Writes the model

Takes a level to a new elevation in a single Revit operation - the tied elements follow the level, and a single Ctrl+Z undoes it all.

What it does

Takes a level to a new elevation, like the "Move level" button of the "Move level" window. BIMit changes only the level's elevation; Revit does the rest:

  • the elements tied to the level move whole, keeping their offsets;
  • the elements whose other end is constrained to another level stay attached to it and change height;
  • the level's views follow it.

The new elevation is given as an absolute elevation (in project units, measured by default from the level's own point, or from the Project Base Point, the Survey Point or the Internal Origin) or as a signed offset.

If the level is pinned, BIMit unpins it for the move and pins it again. Before moving, BIMit analyzes the level; afterwards it checks, by comparing each element's bounding box height before and after, how many elements actually moved.

How it works

  1. Your AI calls the tool with the level (name or id; without it, the one selected in Revit or the active view's level) and the new elevation or the offset. It is worth asking first for Analyze the move to see what moves.
  2. BIMit checks that the elevation is valid and different from the current one and that the level can be edited (in workshared models it must not be in use by others), analyzes the tied elements and changes the elevation in a single Revit operation, "BIMit: move level". The confirmation the "Move level" window shows does not appear here: the level moves when your AI calls the tool.
  3. If Revit reports an error, the operation is rolled back and the model stays as it was; your AI gets Revit's errors. With risolvi, BIMit applies the solutions Revit offers only when they delete nothing (unjoin geometry, fix groups).
  4. When the move succeeds, your AI tells you the starting and final elevation, how far the level went up or down, how many elements are tied to it, how many changed height, how many actually moved out of those that could be checked, what Revit solved, its warnings and whether the level was pinned again.

Example requests

  • "Take Level 2 to 6.40 m."
  • "Raise the Roof by 300 mm, but first tell me which elements change height."
  • "Move the selected level to +12.50 m from the Survey Point."

What changes and how to undo

It changes the level's elevation and, through Revit, the position or height of the tied elements. It all happens in one Revit operation, "BIMit: move level": a single Ctrl+Z in Revit undoes the move. If Revit refuses the move, the model is not changed. With risolvi, the solutions Revit applies (geometry unjoined, groups fixed) are part of the same operation and are undone by the same Ctrl+Z. No file is written.

Limits

  • Needs the AI level "Write" (the default), which you choose with the "Level" button on the BIMit tab.
  • Works on a project, not on a family. Give quota or sposta_di, not both; an elevation equal to the current one is refused.
  • In workshared models a level in use by another user is not moved; tied elements in use by others may make Revit refuse the change.
  • Spot elevations and fixed annotations are not checked.
  • Every change to the model can be undone with Ctrl+Z in Revit; team actions ask for confirmation in Revit.

Parameters

ParameterMeaning
livelloLevel name. Without livello and livello_id: the level selected in Revit, or the active view's level.
livello_idLevel id.
quotaNew elevation in project units (comma or point; you can type the unit, e.g. "3500 mm", "3.50", 10' 6"). Measured from the level's own point, unless riferimento says otherwise.
riferimentoWhere quota is measured from: livello (default: the level's own point, as in the window), punto_base_progetto (Project Base Point), punto_rilievo (Survey Point), origine_interna (Internal Origin).
sposta_diInstead of quota: how far to move, signed, in project units (e.g. "+300 mm", "-0.5").
risolvitrue: if Revit blocks the move with an error it can solve without deleting anything (unjoin geometry, fix groups), apply its solution. Default false, like the window's checkbox.
